Based on a letter written by Neal Cassady to Jack Kerouac in 1947, watching The Last Time I Committed Suicide is like being strapped to a Tilt-A-Whirl for an hour and a half--it loses its charm after the first three minutes. After his beloved girlfriend (Adrien Brody) slits her wrists and almost dies, wild card Cassady (Thomas Jane) spends his nights dreaming of picket fences and a stable day job, while drinking with his buddy (Keanu Reeves) at the local poolhall...until he meets a mysterious woman in a red dress. The Last Time I Committed Suicide has all the potential of an interesting, character-driven film, but writer/director Stephen Kay couldn't let the material or the actors carry the story. Instead, Kay whips the film into an obnoxiously frenzied camera extravaganza and the result is death by dizzying. Not recommended. (L. Russo)
