Actor Jon Cryer writes, stars, and co-produces this totally unhip comedy about four neurotic losers (Cryer, Adrian Pasdar, Tim Guinee, Adam Oliensis) who can't figure out women. Cryer bases his whole film around his characters trying to understand the lyrics to the Steve Miller song "The Joker" and not getting it until the end of the film. The big conclusion? Love is a mystery. Worse, director Richard Schenkman uses the most obvious, obtrusive, obnoxious camerawork. The Pompatus of Love tries too hard to be cool and ends up a total disaster. (L. Russo)
