Taking a satirical swing at The Real World reality series franchise, this 2002 MTV-aired mockumentary presents the “authentic” story of seven strangers who are kidnapped from the fictional Real World Vancouver set. Believing that they are going to compete against a team of ex-Real Worlders for $50,000, the gang is tricked into a van and later trapped at an explosive-filled compound run by Roland, a psycho fan who uses the Vancouver troupe to get payback for years of MTV's denial of his creepy, disgruntled Real World audition tapes. Confined to the camera-equipped building for fear that Roland will blow the place up, the seven cast members (predictably pigeonholed into stock RW personalities) dwindle as Roland disposes with anyone who gets in the way of his goal of being a part of the best season yet. While trying to escape, the cast members quarrel, enjoy “racy” shower and hot tub encounters, and analyze each other until they crack, much to Roland's delight. A contrived, Blair Witch Project wannabe, this is also sure to be popular. Optional. [Note: DVD extras include a behind-the-scenes documentary and cast profiles. Bottom line: little in the way of extras for little in the way of a film.] (J. Williams)
