Based on the books by Bonnie Bryant, The Saddle Club: Adventures at Pine Hollow combines three episodes from the Australian TV show focusing on the escapades of three preteens with equestrian passions. Best friends Carole (who wants to be a vet like her deceased mother), Lisa (the insecure and sensitive one), and Stevie (the take-charge tomboy) are regulars at Pine Hollow Stables, where they ride horses to their heart's content. Chockfull of various subplots involving the tragic death of a beloved steed, catty rivalry from villainous adversary Veronica, audition anxiety for Lisa, and Stevie's boy dilemma, the main storyline finds Carole abandoning her vet work study and wanting to sell her horse when she feels unqualified to follow in her mom's footsteps. DVD extras include a 10-minute "Complete Guide to Horses" on equine care and maintenance, hosted by characters Stevie and Carole; brief bios about the characters and horses; and the "Hello World" theme song music video. Likely to be popular with preteen girls, regardless of equine interest, this is highly recommended. (J. Williams)
