Stars: Mark Kinsey Stephenson (The Unnamable), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Julie Strain. A sequel to 1988's The Unnamable, the film opens with police being baffled over a brutal murder. Randolph Carter (Mark Kinsey Stephenson) suspects that supernatural forces may be involved here and enlists the aid of a professor (John Rhys-Davies) at neighboring Miskatonic University. Investigating some nearby caves, the boys find what they're looking for: namely, the unnamable--a kind of wrinkly-skinned she-devil who's taken possession of a 17th-century girl named Alyda (Julie Strain). Using a little special-effects derring-do, the intrepid duo are able to separate Alyda from the monster who inhabits her. Eventually, local sheriff Peter Breck (remember Nick on "The Big Valley"?), Carter, and Alyda confront the beast in the Miskatonic Library in a light show finale. The Unnamable II suffers from a couple of flaws: 1) Stephenson's deadpan acting (modeled on Jeffrey Coombs character in Re-Animator) doesn't work, and 2) the film comes to a screeching halt after the first third due to a major subplot involving getting some clothes on Alyda--a segment which might find favor with the Porky's crowd, but won't do much for horror fans. Still, some nice special effects and occasionally campy dialogue make this an okay choice. Audience: Horror fans only.
