A screwball comedy of compounding complexity, The Whole Nine Yards casts Matthew Perry as a miserably married Montreal suburbanite whose nervous nature kicks into overdrive when an infamous hitman called Jimmy the Tulip (Bruce Willis) moves in next door, looking for a little R & R after ratting out the mob. The witty casting of mobsters (Kevin Pollak, Michael Clarke Duncan) and estranged wives (Rosanna Arquette, Natasha Henstridge) keep up the laughs as the mafia comes calling. Perry is ideal as an apprehensive doofus prone to fits of clumsy slapstick and Willis hasn't been this charming and droll since his Moonlighting days. Best of all is Amanda Peet (Body Shots) as a contract killer wannabe and giddy Jimmy groupie. Recommended. (R. Blackwelder)
