Insulting G-rated dreck, dreck, and more dreck. The only redeeming quality of this kid's movie is the occasionally dazzling special effects. The multi-racial group of five clean-cut Americans join forces again as the familiar superheroes, the Power Rangers, to battle evil space pirates (one of whom looks like a busty brunette Barbie turned villainess) to save a cartoonish, troll-like alien who possesses peaceful powers. This movie uses bad bathroom humor, garish costumes, and a pathetically predictable good versus evil plot to appeal to children. Moreover, the Power Rangers don't suit up or turn on their turbo powers until the end of the movie. Turbo epitomizes everything a bad kid's movie can be--a colorful mess of clichés. Not recommended. (A. Glover) [Blu-ray Review—July 30, 2019—Shout! Factory, 99 min., PG, Blu-ray: $19.99—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie sports a decent transfer and a DTS-HD 5.1 soundtrack. Extras include a 'Ranger Tales' retrospective featurette (24 min.) and a vintage production featurette (4 min.). Bottom line: two decades later, this is still a dud.]
