Last summer's first big blast will no doubt lose some of its impact on the small screen (it's an F-3 instead of an F-5), but you can bet that copies on your shelf will be gone with the wind. At heart, it's really just a storm-tossed His Girl Friday, with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as estranged stormchasers. Cary Elwes is their corporate-sponsored rival who is in it "for the money, not the science." Look who's talking: Twister earned $240 million at the box office, and it wasn't for tornado trivia. It was for those flying cows and farm appliances dropping from the sky (but I still prefer the cyclone in The Wizard of Oz). Recommended. (K. Lee Benson)[DVD Review—May 13, 2008—Warner, 2 discs, 113 min., PG-13, DVD: $20.98—Making its second appearance on DVD, 1996's Twister (Two-Disc Special Edition) boasts a great transfer. DVD extras include audio commentary by director Jan De Bont and visual effects supervisor Stefen Fangmeier, the 45-minute History Channel documentary “Nature Tech: Tornadoes,” a 29-minute “Chasing the Storm: Twister Revisited” retrospective featurette, a 14-minute HBO “First Look” making-of featurette, “Anatomy of a Twister” (9 min.), the music video “Humans Being” performed by Van Halen, and trailers. Bottom line: a fine extras package for a ‘90s SFX favorite.]
