Judy Taylor of Edeldal Farms hosts this overview of traditional rug hooking, beginning with a brief history and demonstration of this craft popular in America since Colonial times. Starting with the very basics--shearing sheep for wool--and moving on to dying and spinning the fiber, the technique of hooking is clearly shown using various rug hooks and canvases. Viewers watch in actual time as a sampler piece is put together (it's quickly finished), and learn tips for care and cleaning. Taylor is a good presenter, and the direction and other production values are excellent. They make it look easy. One caveat: Edeldal Farms sells wool, patterns, hooks and other tools necessary, and they do offer their services occasionally in the video. Recommended, with reservations. Aud: H, C, P. (E. Druda)
