Combining live-action, animation, and computer graphics, this new addition to Dorling Kindersley's Amazing Animals series takes a look at all manner of toxic snakes, toads, jellyfish, scorpions, spiders and even the skunk who resorts to ‘chemical warfare.' The production quality is perfect; however, there doesn't seem to be much continuity or organization here, and the whiny voice of our on-camera cartoon host Henry the lizard can wear thin. Still, the close-up showdowns between some of these animals, such as the black widow spider and a scorpion, are a total gross-out and kids will consider this WAY cool. Recommended. Other new titles in the series include: Mini-Beasts and Armored Animals. Aud: E, I, J, P. (N. Plympton)
