The word amphibian means "double life": amphibians begin as eggs in water and eventually breathe through the gills, but most develop legs and the ability to live on land as well. In this video, these fascinating creatures of the class Amphibia are introduced, classified, and explained in detail. The nature footage includes lots of close-ups of the more "exotic" creatures, and the narration and text graphics are clear and well-organized, making note-taking and review easy. A sound ecological message is also communicated, answering the oft-repeated query, "why should I care about these little creatures?" Although not riveting, this video is a concise and thorough look at the amphibian world, and a good supplement to any life science curriculum. Recommended. Aud: I, J. (E. Gieschen)
