From the Art Is… series, this program illustrates modern techniques used in creating the water-based monotype, an art form dating from the 1700s (practiced by Rembrandt and Gauguin among others) that incorporates various media to create singular “prints.” Monotypes and monoprints (literally, one-of-a-kind prints) combine printmaking, painting, and drawing to build interesting displays of color, shape, and texture. Here, artists Nick Capaci and Jonde Northcut use a Plexiglas plate to spread the pigments on (and add texture using stencils and crumpled-up newspaper among other tools) as they create beautiful examples of the art form, striking the final print by pressing paper over the wet plate. Recommended for larger arts collections. Aud: H, C, P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
