Wisely opening with solid reasons seniors might want to embark on the sometimes long and painful journey towards computer literacy (such as writing letters and saving family photographs), this informative program looks at all of the key hardware components, and patiently explains the need-to-know basics of navigating the operating system, as well as how to use a simple word processor. The well-written script notably makes good use of generation-appropriate analogies to explain computer concepts, such as referring to the hard drive as a "filing cabinet" and a program's menu bar as a "cupboard" with labels for each door. Aside from the fact that the host speaks a little too slow, in stark contrast to the narrator's pleasing pace, this otherwise solid program is recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
