Tough love, immense patience, and unshakable perseverance are absolutely required for any good results to be achieved when working with an autistic child. These are the attributes which award-winning teacher Karen Sewell demonstrates in this case study of Jessie, a four-year-old with autism. Jessie is oppositional, self-abusive, and cannot communicate with those around her. However, over a period of months under Sewell's early intervention program, we see her learn simple tasks and basic skills that her parents thought she'd never acquire. High expectations combined with consistency can produce strong results through a variety of strategies which Sewell demonstrates and discusses. This video can be used in conjunction with a manual (available for an additional $40), but also stands alone as a motivational tool or a demonstration of successful strategies for special education teachers.
