In the second volume of the Chefs Live! series (see review of Chefs Live! How To Gourmet Cooking, Vol. 1 in VL-7/01), Chef Barbara Armstrong concocts a gourmet Thai-themed meal in front of a class. Reminding viewers that traditional Thai flavors "make your mouth liven up," Armstrong and her co-host prepare Thai soup, rainbow chicken curry, cabbage salad, and mango sorbet. Unfortunately, while the food does indeed sound mouth-watering, several of the preparation steps are breezed through, and while recipe cards are included, along with an itemized list of instructions presented at the end of the tape, it's unlikely that non-chefs would be able to put together some of these delectable dishes based on the video instruction alone. Given the lackluster production qualities (low-budget look, audible audience chatter, rinky-dink graphics, etc.), this is an optional purchase, at best. Also available at the same price are a third and fourth volume, covering an Italian menu and desserts, respectively. Aud: P. (J. Williams)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
