If MP3 audio files are the “killer application” for younger web surfers, e-mail enjoys the same status among computer-using seniors. Unfortunately, this program--a companion volume to the original Computers for Seniors (VL-9/00)--is somewhat misleadingly titled, or at least should have been subtitled “How to Use E-mail Via America Online” since that is the only e-mail software featured here. While AOL is ubiquitous, it is certainly not the sole way folks access the Internet. That being said, many of the features of the AOL mail client translate to other interfaces, and the program does provide some sterling tips for setting up the AOL software, including the sometimes maddening process of picking out a unique username, and clues to which AOL setup screens can be safely skipped. In addition to the basics, the program demonstrates how to send photos attached to e-mail messages, and offers up some good general tips on consumer safety and awareness for seniors surfing the Infobahn. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
