Cotica, a parrot, and Bromley, a fish, are our hosts as both hand puppets and animated characters in this English-Spanish bilingual production (the DVD also features French and Italian). Combining fun sound effects, colorful graphics, and animation, Fun with Numbers (from the producers of Fun with Colors [VL-11/02]) not only teaches young viewers to count from one to 20 in both languages, but also features lots of additional vocabulary--both nouns and adjectives--in the illustrated examples (i.e., they will learn that 16 red apples are diecisiete manzanas rojas). After every five numbers, "The Counting Hop" song--with live-action kids--offers a review. It's a clever concept, and the natural breaks allow the program to be viewed in easy-to-digest sections. The VHS version is also available in English-French, English-Italian, and English-Portuguese versions. A good multilingual motivator, this is definitely recommended. Aud: K, E, P. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
