Young artists will enjoy this light-hearted video that focuses on the art of the American West through profiles of 19th-century artists, and visits with contemporary artists. Four junior-high students meet a painter, a potter, and a graphic artist who all cite the West as a primary influence in their own works. With each artist, they participate in projects of their own. Although this is a fun, fast-paced video, it mostly serves simply to heighten interest in a particular genre without much practical instruction, which may not be best for art classes with already limited time and resources. In short, this is a good program, but an optional purchase. Aud: I, J. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
