This is a solid introduction to the science of handicapping greyhounds, with one major unfortunate aspect for public libraries: the accompanying booklet which contains forms used in conjunction with the program. This drawback aside, Dennis Barsky's system, formulated over several years, is a sound approach which incorporates six determining factors: class, first turn speed, closing ability, running style, bullet speed, and consistency. Each of these is explained in detail, and all are able to be figured from the standard racing form. If patrons wouldn't fill in the blank forms, this would be a good purchase for libraries in those areas where the sport is popular. Recommended, with the above reservations. (See DIFFICULT PEOPLE: HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
