Laura Stamm, who has coached thousands of junior and amateur hockey players (and more than a few NHL professionals) during her 30-year career, serves up solid advice for hockey players looking to increase their speed and ability in several key areas, including balance, control, forward and backward striding, crossovers, quick turns and transitions, lateral mobility, starting and stopping, and overall agility. She begins by asking viewers to have three goals in mind: keep 100% of the body weight over the working skate, maintain a 90-degree knee bend, and always remember proper form. Stamm then describes each technique in full, and demonstrates practice drills and exercises (on one side only, so viewers should remember to work on both sides and backwards as well as forwards). While geared toward beginning and intermediate students, advanced skaters will also find some great tips here to help maximize their performances. Recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (J. Asala)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
