Like a no-nonsense midwife, New Baby Care hits the highlights with efficiency and accuracy without too many cuddly extras. Starting with "Your Newborn at Birth" and closing with "Your Newborn at Home," all the basics are ticked off: dressing, feeding, sleeping, crying and playtime. We gamely face dirty diapers; we do not cringe at bathing; we master burping. Viewers will also learn about swaddling, crooning, and the importance of bonding. There's nothing much new here, and while I appreciated the lean, business-like organization, the overall tone was almost clinical in its seriousness. The other titles in this childbirth education series are Fetal & Maternal Development; Pregnancy: Nutrition, Exercise, Rest & Daily Care and Postnatal Exercises and Body Conditioning. Similar quality exists in other titles on this subject for less money. Not a necessary purchase. (E. Druda)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
