So, you're finally home from the hospital with your newborn. Now what? Well, if you can find time between all the feeding, burping, and rocking (“there aren't many plot twists in the first weeks of your newborn's life”) to watch Newborn Care, this informational program provides plenty of answers. Between the narration (both male and female), a few humorous graphics, definitions (what is “colic” anyway?), and InJoy's trademark parental role-modeling scenarios, this how-to not only answers parents' bewildered questions but also offers comforting reassurance. Chapters are broken into topics covering newborn appearances (explaining that pointy head, as well as peeling skin and other strange blemishes); baby cues, crying, and comfort techniques (baby looking away means over-stimulation, while glassy-eyes mean sleepy); eating and sleeping (hailing the numerous benefits of breast milk), diapering and cleaning (watch out for that umbilical stump!), and health and safety (cautionary note: ear thermometers aren't accurate until babies are six months old). Featuring a racially diverse mix of parents who discuss their own experiences relating to newborn care, this solid program (bundled with a facilitator's guide) is definitely recommended.
