Superb audio and video production values characterize these instructional videos on pronouncing English. Created by Donald W. Novey, M.D., a physician-educator, and Eilleen C. Cowin, a speech/language pathologist, both programs follow identical formats. Following a brief introduction, each sound is pronounced, animated anatomical sequences show how the tongue, lips, and teeth are positioned for correct pronunciation, and then the sounds are used in several word and sentence exercises (which are captioned). Consonants contains 25 segments corresponding to consonants with one or more sounds, while Vowels, Dipthongs and Word Endings has 22 lessons, including a special section on word endings. Particularly useful for ESL students, these programs would also be suitable for grade school children and adults who want to brush up on their pronunciation skills. Highly recommended.
