Shirley and Gaye, two Southern sisters, host these low-budget guides to cake decorating, which carry a traditional Southern flair both in the rich accents of the presenters and in the cakes (such as the "belle doll" cake) themselves. Dedicated to their father, Mack Crosby, who taught them their trade, Sister's Cake Decorating Made Fun & Easy is an introduction to the subject, which covers the basic tools necessary, demonstrates how to create different types of icing borders (shell, leaf, etc.), and takes viewers step-by-step through the decoration of a birthday cake, doll cake, bridal shower cake, Halloween cake, and Christmas cake (Santa face). The video image is a bit washed out, but still presentable, though the audio track includes a fair amount of background noise, and has occasional dropouts. Too, it's probably not a good idea to refer to viewers as "girls" in this day and age, as the sisters frequently do. Men also make cakes. The second tape, Sister's Wedding Cake Decorating, offers better looking video (but still contains background audio noise). On this program the sisters make a chantilly pearl wedding cake, a rambling rose cake, a 3-tiered wedding cake, and a silver anniversary cake. Libraries without similar fare may want to consider these programs (they are being offered together for $69.95), but there are better cake decorating tapes on the market. (See CONSTRUCTIVE COMMUNICATIONS for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
