One of the best-selling instructional videos on the market today, this is also one of the least useful. A long introductory sequence features "Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze shooting the breeze with his wife and mother before a group of "dance contestants" who are taking a course from Patsy Swayze. Once the tape finally gets down to business, the camera follows the group as they do a catalog of dirty dancing moves. The instruction, if you could call it that, is non-sequential. Apparently, one just picks a move one likes, and fits it into an existing repertoire. This won't teach anybody how to dance-the best it can accomplish is giving viewers additional wiggles and jiggles to graft onto their current dancing steps. The tape winds up with the obviously staged dance contest, once again reminding viewers of the silly frame device which bookends the program. Not recommended. (Available from most distributors.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
