Drawing upon over 30 years' experience as an art teacher, each volume in Carolyn Lebo's Masterpiece Children's Art Video Series features an overview of the artist's life supplemented by photographs, drawings, and examples of the artist's own work, followed by three “hands-on” art activities focusing on the particular artist's techniques. In The Life & Works of Marc Chagall, viewers learn about Chagall's (Mark Zakharovich Shagal, 1887-1985) early life as a Jewish child growing up in a small Russian village, his education, and his huge influence on 20th century art, especially in the Surrealism movement. Lebo's accompanying art lessons help students understand the psychological nature of art, notably the role dreams, symbols, and magic play in the creation of surrealistic works. Geared for the 5-8th grade middle school group, this well-scripted (not to mention downright fun!) program is an obvious choice for junior high libraries, but would also be suitable for public libraries, home schoolers, and art education programs. Other artists featured in the nine-volume series include: Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Monet, Cézanne, El Greco, Frida Kahlo and Mary Cassatt. Recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (L. Stevens)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
