Aimed at individuals terrified of swimming, "Melon" Dash's The Miracle Swimmer addresses basic fears through a combination of standard techniques and a guided immersion process that, taken together, provide a step-by-step process designed to help individuals overcome panic and maintain a comfortable feeling in water. Reminding viewers that general swimming lessons (which often teach only technique) do not necessarily help would-be swimmers overcome dread, Dash outlines her method of conquering water fears (similar to that used for combating fear of flying) in building-block sections: initial beliefs, beginning comfortably, staying within your body, putting your face in, etc. While Dash's explanations to a group of swimmers appeared condescending at times to this reviewer, they were perhaps appropriately reassuring to nervous individuals. A bit pricey for a "how-to," this helpful guide is nevertheless recommended, due to the popularity of the subject and the lack of similar fare. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Fisher)
