The Road to College puts an "average" family through the paces of getting into college from the initial decision to attend to the letter of acceptance. In the 90's it takes more than smarts; you need to know what preparations to make in high school, which tests to take, how to fill out an application, and where to obtain financial aid. It's all here along with glimpses of campus life at a good mix of colleges and universities, as well as tips from students and faculty. Particular attention is paid to obtaining financial aid, including scholarships, work study programs, grants and loans, and the program includes a useful "postscript" section with a list of no-tuition schools and their phone numbers. Although, the tape features a pitch for scholarship software, I saw no sign of a commercial tie-in. This is the "1995 Edition"--a good point to keep in mind, as some of this information becomes rapidly outdated. Despite some "budget" production touches (corny script uneven sound in dialogue segments, a misspelled name of a college), this is still recommended for college-bound students and their folks. For a more general introduction to college finances, libraries might want to consider How to Pay for College (VL-5/93) (J. Reed)
