Young children are beautiful....but not when they are screaming in the supermarket or biting the pre-school teacher. Hosted by professor Joanne Hendrick and inspired by her book The Whole Child, this 13-part series is divided into six major content areas: physical well-being, issues of infancy, children with special needs, social development, and fostering emergent curriculum and cognitive development. We watched the ninth program in the series, Building Inner Controls, which takes on the tough issues of sharing, discipline, and helping kids learn self-control. Using real-life footage from Head Start classrooms, teachers discuss the issues and how they have effectively managed some difficult cases. Other titles in the series include: It's the Little Things, Dealing With Feelings, Everybody's Special, Getting Along Together, Respecting Diversity and Growing Minds. With its concrete advice from sympathetic professionals, excellent production values, and extensive supplementary materials, this is highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (E. Druda)
