This PBS-aired teleconference brings pediatricians, clinical psychologists, social workers, teachers and parents together for a cogent and enlightening discussion of ADHD in children. Working from the premise that ADHD is a complex condition involving medical, social/conduct and family management problems, this program presents a great deal of information using a variety of techniques. Host and moderator Beth Switzer does an excellent job of balancing a panel discussion and fielding/directing calls from the teleconference audience. Emerging through all this "interactive havoc" is an organized, topical exploration of what ADHD is, its classic profile and divergent symptoms, the difficulties of the diagnostic process, various drug treatments and the benefits of that treatment, as well as behavioral and family management. The strengths of this program lie in its currency, breadth of coverage, and its diversity of opinions. It provides a basis for understanding and building support groups, especially in the schools. While the pace wanes at times because of the teleconference style, the information is valuable. Recommended for schools, PTA groups and public library collections. (J. Scholtz)
