Former frontman of '90s alt-country band Whiskeytown, Ryan Adams is the star of this Jamaica-based episode from the Music in High Places series. Stopping in places such as Winifred's Beach, Port Antonio, and Old Naval Hospital, Port Royal, the lanky, scruffy Adams shuffles around the tropical locale with a three-piece band in tow, performing mellow tunes like “Firecracker,” “You Will Always Be the Same,” and “The Rescue Blues”--although the better segments feature memorable footage (i.e.: “Touch, Feel & Lose” with backup vocals from a group of adorable kids Adams dubs 'The Kingston Choir,' and “New York, New York” featuring a guy drinking with his donkey). Beautiful beaches, skies, and scenery offer a pleasant backdrop for Adams, whose activities also include shopping in villages, trying on hats, and considering local delicacies (including goat's head soup and coconut juice), as well as meeting up with legendary reggae great Toots Hibbert (of Toots and the Maytals) to jam at Kingston's Anchor Studios. Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo, the disc also includes two featurettes, an audio only option, and a bonus song. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams)
