Tommy and Tuppence Beresford may not loom large in the Agatha Christie canon, but the high society crime-solving couple do make for veddy pleasant company. Originally broadcast on the PBS series Mystery!, this miniseries stars James Warwick and Francesca Annis in their signature roles as suave Tommy and elegant, hat-fancying Tuppence, old friends who, in the first episode, "The Secret Adversary," are reunited in post-World War I England, and hit upon "an unorthodox way of making money" as two young adventurers. In "The Affair of the Pink Pearl," the stylish couple open their detective agency, which leads to further business in "The House of Lurking Death," "Finessing the King" and "The Clergyman's Daughter." Serving up diverting entertainment that will charm fans of Nick and Nora Charles in The Thin Man series, this popular series from the early '80s--collected here in an extras-lite but handsomely packaged boxed set--is recommended.
