The William H. Hannon Library will soon be accepting applications for the Institute for Research and Design in Librarianship. (IRDL)
This is a year-long continuing education program for librarians and archivists within the United States and Canada. The IRDL program is taught with an emphasis on research, with courses that aim to remove the barriers that often prevent librarians from conducting reliable research. Through this process, scholars will establish a personal network of library researchers in a growing online community.
IRDL provides scholars with the tools to fully realize their passion for research. Through the program, scholars will be exposed to a diverse range of perspectives. Applicants will be selected according to their enthusiasm for research and the library science community, in addition to the thoroughness and clarity of their research proposals.
The course will begin with the Summer Research Workshop, taking place from June 6-17 2021. Thanks to a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the workshop will shift to an online format, allowing a more diverse group of scholars to take part. During the Summer Research Workshop, scholars will receive instruction in social science research methods and design. It is offered at no cost to participants.
During the following academic year, scholars will revise their research proposals and conduct research that expands their ideas, preparing for the presentation or publication of research results. IRDL provides many opportunities for growth and networking throughout the process, including monthly online check-ins with other scholars, formal mentor support, and the opportunity to eventually become a mentor to future scholars.
Applications will be accepted from December 1, 2021 to January 28, 2022 for the 2022-2023 academic year. Accepted scholars can expect to be notified in early March 2022. More information about the application process can be found here.
