Self-Reliant Film produces, distributes, and celebrates films with compelling stories, a personal sensibility, and regional character.
Filmmaker Paul Harrill began Self-Reliant Film as a website and blog in November 2005 to champion small-crew, low-budget, and regional filmmaking. The blog was maintained through 2015 and during its time was listed as one of indieWire’s “Blogs We Love” and was named part of Film Festival World’s The Essential Film Blog Reader.
In 2010 Harrill and filmmaker Ashley Maynor co-founded Self-Reliant Film, LLC to produce and distribute new films with compelling stories, a personal sensibility, and regional character. Taken together, Self-Reliant Film’s works have screened on five continents. Venues and distribution outlets have included Netflix, Sundance, the Museum of Modern Art, PBS, the Library of Congress, and the Institute for Contemporary Art London, among many others.
