Winsomely narrated by John Lithgow, Bark, George, based on Jules Feiffer's ALA Notable 1999 picture book, is a simple (and simply animated) tale--or more accurately, anecdote--about a puppy finding his voice. Told to bark by his mother, George “meows,” “quacks,” “oinks,” and “moos” in succession until his exasperated mom takes him to a doctor, who repeats the same instruction with the same results, but also reaches deep into George's mouth and pulls out a cat, duck, pig, and cow before finally being rewarded with an “arf.” Small children are sure to enjoy both the repetition and the always-popular breaking of the laws of physics, but ultimately this is a slight one-note joke that grows old very quickly. Optional. Aud: K, P. (R. Pitman)
