We're not really sure which are more expensive: drugs or videos about drugs. So, it's nice to see an affordable, quality program like this come along at a reasonable price. Dr. Cooper and His Friends contains six shorts which cover the subjects of household poisons/medicine, cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and inhalants (paint thinner and glue). Using simple story frames, likable puppet characters and catchy songs, Dr. Cooper and His Friends is an ideal introduction for youngsters to the dangers of substance abuse. In one of the best ("Butt it Out"), a chronic smoking robot, lasts about a minute on Dr. Cooper's treadmill. The robot can get replacement parts, of course. Humans unfortunately cannot. A flyer summarizing the concepts and offering sample discussion questions is included with the video. Highly recommended for public libraries and primary/elementary school libraries.
