Targeted at 1-5 year olds, Farm Animals is the real video equivalent of a children's picture book. With the exception of children's voices saying the name and making the sound of each animal at the beginning of every segment, the program has no dialogue. Pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens, cows, sheep, donkeys, and horses are shown and heard on the farm in this very simple, low-budget production. Cows chew their cud, pigs roll in the mud, and horses lick salt...the basic daily business of being a farm animal. And when you stop to think about all the inner city children who will grow up never having laid eyes on a goat, this video seems like more than just simple entertainment for children. For many kids, visual media may be their only exposure to live farm animals. Recommended. (Available from: Stage Fright Productions, P.O. Box 373, Geneva, IL 60134-0373.)
