When I notice that I'm singing elementary school level lyrics with the same passion that I usually reserve for Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild," I realize two things: 1) there are certain benefits to working alone, and 2) I'm watching a really involving children's video. Fire Safety for Kids, produced with the cooperation of the NYC Fire Department, is a charming, educational sing-along which teaches kids the basics of fire safety. Presented by a singing easel named Beasel and a flying smoke detector named Hector, the program teaches kids about what to do if their clothes catch fire (stop, drop, cover, and roll), who to call in case of an emergency (911), and the importance of having both smoke alarms and a family escape plan. All of the profits from the tape will go to the Widows and Orphans of the Uniformed Firefighters Association. Highly recommended. (R. Pitman)
