This two-tape set (which constitutes volume one of a two volume series) is aimed towards children aged 5-12. Instructress Karen Novey teaches a small class of children the French alphabet, salutations, familiar objects, colors, and rudimentary grammatical principles. Using enhanced video effects, the program creatively combines learning and fun, and under Novey's enthusiastic tutelage, the children become quick learners. Specific lessons include teaching the children how to spell their name using French pronunciation; singing "The Hello Song," which teaches children how to say hello and goodbye; learning the various articles of clothing which boys and girls wear; and, of course, how to perform the affectionate greeting which the French are famous for: the bise--or the kiss on each cheek. An activity booklet--which is not essential to the program--is included. Elementary schools will want to use this as a good motivational starter course in learning French, but public libraries may also want to consider if the budget allows. Recommended. (Available from: EVI, 16242 Prince Drive, South Holland, IL 60473.)
