Join the ultra-cool outdoor "creature explorer" brothers, Chris & Martin Kratt, and their 15-year-old friend Allison, as they take you on a fun, fast-paced, informative wildlife adventure! City Critters, the first of two 30-minute episodes, shows the astonishing variety of creatures that exist in an urban environment. A gull colony on a landfill, foxes in a schoolyard, a peregrine falcon on a skyscraper--there's a lot more than "just" squirrels and birds in your neighborhood! Where? imagines a world in which Pangaea, the great land mass, still existed, before continental drift. Who would survive the competitions for food and land? Viewers learn that having the right "creature features" to live in a specific habitat are essential for survival. The brothers Kratt are original, real, energetic (you'd think that spotting a common opossum was the event of a lifetime, by their enthusiasm), and "way cool," according to a target audience. Allison, who runs the information homebase while the brothers do field research, is a likable kid who is intelligent without being obnoxious, and helps kids feel more a part of the action. Chockfull of informative facts, concepts, and vocabulary, kids learn about everything from habitat to plate tectonics to ecological conservation in this entertaining, educational, and very reasonably priced video. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Altogether, 25 two-part videos are available in the series, including: Creatures of the Night/Hanging With the Monkeys, The Great Bear Show/Kickboxing Kangaroos, and Weird Creatures/The Cow Show. [Note: PolyGram Video will be releasing episodes from the series on home video in July priced at $12.95 per tape.] Aud: I, J, P. (E. Gieschen)
