One of the movers and shakers in the quality kidvid sweepstakes is KIDVIDZ, a producer of special interest video for children out of Boston, MA. Following such innovative programs as "Hey, What About Me?" (which addresses the concerns of siblings over the arrival of a new brother or sister) and Squiggles, Dots & Lines (which features Ed Emberly's easy-to-learn system for drawing anything), comes another program which is both unique and done well. Let's Get a Move On! is a "kid's video guide to a family move." As anyone who's ever grown up in a military family can tell you, "moving" is a way of life, and requires its own set of coping tools that children need to develop early on. In today's society, where mobility is the rule rather than the exception, you no longer need to be a "navy brat" to experience your share of "moving." Told in flashback, we follow the adventures of Eli, Clara, Amanda, and Maurice, four kids whose families had to move for various reasons. Over the course of about a year, we see the kids "getting the news," "getting ready to move," "saying goodbyes," "making the move," and "settling in." Along the way there are several good suggestions for helping out without getting in the way and for making new friends once the kids have moved in to the new home. A fine sense of humor, artless acting from the young thespians, and an infectious set of bouncy songs, make this an enjoyable tape for young kids. As one of the kids says, the move from elementary school to junior high school seemed huge before the change and no big deal after. Children need that kind of reassurance from their peers--Let's Get a Move On! provides it. Highly recommended. (Available from:
