Twenty-six one minute stories culled from the New Testament concerning the life of Jesus are the subject of this half-hour program geared toward younger viewers. Beginning with the birth of Jesus, Florence Henderson (of "Brady Bunch" fame) and Shari Lewis's puppet Lamb Chop, tell of Christ's childhood, his relationship with the Apostles, some of the more famous miracles, his death, and resurrection. The stories are told using limited animation. Three items make this tape problematic: 1) the stories do not always break naturally, but end on the arbitrary value of 60 seconds; 2) Ms. Henderson speaks at nearly breakneck speed; making it impossible for a small child to keep up; and 3) adult viewers are more apt to notice that in 26 stories Ms. Henderson performs no less than 26 costume changes, while Lamb Chop retains her original outfit throughout. This last item is really the most thought-provoking facet of the program. If libraries need to balance their collection with more religious fare, this tape might be useful. Otherwise, we'd recommend that you look into something that doesn't take the 'fast-food' approach.
