A flashy animated series based on the Les Pyjamasques books by French author Romuald Racioppo, PJ Masks, which airs in the U.S. on Disney Junior, follows the escapades of three friends who don superhero costumes and personas at nighttime. Protagonists Connor (Catboy), Amaya (Owlette), and Greg (Gekko) sneak out of their homes unsupervised after dark to drive vehicles and fight petty crime (given that they are 6-year-olds, the show should come with a “don't try this at home” warning). Each episode features gaudy morphing-into-character segments, villains to be tracked down, lessons to be learned, and glossed-over conclusions. “Catboy and Master Fang's Sword” finds Connor/Catboy's anger ruling his actions after a thief steals a prop from his favorite TV show. Also including “Gekko's Blame Campaign” (in which Greg eventually takes responsibility for his own mistakes after whining for the majority of the story), “Speak UP, Gekko,” “Catboy vs. Robo-Cat,” “Owlette's Two Wrongs,” and “Take to the Skies, Owlette,” this is a so-so series that not surprisingly features an extensive merchandise tie-in line. Extras include a music video. Optional. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
