Teen Titans Go! To the Movies

A spin-off from the popular Cartoon Network series, this animated feature spoofs the DC Comics universe with its story of teen warriors who are disappointed that they’ve never had a superhero movie of their own. The team includes Batman’s perennial sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder (voiced by Scott Menville), along with Beast Boy (Greg Cipes), Raven (Tara Strong), Cyborg (Khary Payton) and Starfire (Hynden Walch). To rectify the situation, the kids try to enlist the aid of an egotistical Hollywood director (Kristen Bell), but their quest is complicated by villainous Slade Wilson (Will Arnett), aka Deathstroke. Directed by Peter Rida Michail and co-writer Aaron Horvath, the film is peppered with musical numbers, along with the inevitable fart-and-poop jokes. And there are cameo appearances by Marvel’s animated 95-year-old Stan Lee and Guardians of the Galaxy, even though, as someone points out, “That’s a different superhero universe!” Also featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage (as Superman), Jimmy Kimmel (as Batman), and Michael Bolton (as the white tiger warbling “Upbeat Inspirational Song About Life”), this family-friendly film featuring action-packed silly slapstick is recommended.
