For those unfamiliar with this series, the Last Chance Detectives are a group of four children who make their headquarters in a restored B-17 bomber in a fictional Southwestern town. The programs boast theatrical quality in terms of acting and production, and are designed to both entertain and reinforce family values. In this outing, Mike, one of the LCDs, and his dog are captured by bank robbers when they hide in what turns out to be the getaway vehicle. To eliminate witnesses, the robbers leave Mike in the desert to die, where he has only his inner resources to call on to survive until help arrives. In Escape from Fire Lake, no muddled scripting dilutes the focus of the program as in the previous release Legend of the Desert Bigfoot (VL-1/96). This effort clearly gets across the idea of the direct, practical worth of having a system of values, and communicates the Christian perspective without preaching. Highly recommended.
