Patricia Romeu's short drama Gabrielle's Story is basically a mawkish short subject about a mother-daughter relationship seen through the eyes of 10-year-old daughter Gabrielle. When the mother, an artist, decides she wants to go to New Mexico for a few months to work on her art--sans husband and child--Gabrielle naturally begins experiencing a little separation anxiety. Talking with Gabrielle, her mother explains that she was pregnant with Gabrielle while in New Mexico and has always wanted to return to paint the scenery there. When mom thinks of New Mexico, she thinks of Gabrielle. Apparently this is an epiphanic moment, because shortly thereafter mom boards the plane and the credits roll. As a slice-of-life portrait of a mother/daughter relationship, Gabrielle's Story is a little thin. Not a necessary purchase. (See AIKIDO: WAY OF HARMONY for availability.)
