This road movie from Great Britain, which updates the famous Gable-Colbert film It Happened One Night, falls short of that masterpiece, but still manages to entertain with its choice bits of dialogue. Sally (Lindsay Duncan) is an outspoken feminist, who's looking for a female driving partner to accompany her in her red jeep (which she built with friends) to Germany where she's headed for a feminist convention. What she ends up with is Harry (Stephen Rea) a professed gay, multi-lingual mechanic, who turns out to be a heterosexual, bumbling, English-speaking rugby fan. How this odd couple manages to reconcile their considerable differences makes for a refreshing, if lightweight, comedy. Recommended for larger fiction collections. (R. Pitman)
