Filmed entirely in the Holy Land, at a cost of over 27 million dollars, this series dramatizes the books of Genesis and Luke. What sets this series apart from others is the fact that the entire books are filmed (excepting some of the 'begats'). Genesis is broken down into four parts: In the Beginning; Abraham; Isaac, Esau, and Jacob; and Joseph. Luke consists of: The First Christmas, Early Ministry, The Parables, and The First Easter. The Luke series is actually better produced than the Genesis series, but the Genesis series is more interesting because of the fact that relatively few people have read the entire book, and are liable to be quite surprised by the vindictive, sexist, often acting on a whim, Old Testament God, as opposed to the loving, peaceful New Testament God. (Remember these were the days when practicing solitary sex didn't make you blind; it just meant that God would kill you.) Should spark some lively family discussions. Highly recommended.
