Shot from a screenplay written by Peter Taylor from his own short story, The Old Forest is a beautiful, low-key tale of the pitfalls of southern society in the 1930's. Narrated by Taylor, the story revolves around a high-society couple, Nat and Caroline, whose world is threatened when Nat is in a car accident with Lee Ann, a working girl. The problem: Lee Ann has run off into the forest, and the police and media will have to make the story public if the girl doesn't show up. As Nat desperately tries to track the missing Lee Ann, her friends give him a lesson in social hypocrisy that doesn't really sink in until his fiancée, Caroline, takes a courageous stand. A compelling, thought-provoking film. Recommended for larger public and secondary school libraries. (Available from: Pyramid Film & Video, Box 1048, Santa Monica, CA 90406-1048; 1-800-421-2304.)
