Roberta C. Carr offers viewers her fourth home video on couture sewing techniques (we previously reviewed Couture Techniques for Fine Sewing in our December 1988 issue), with this step-by-step guide to adding designer details to garments. The subjects covered in the program include: appliqué (military braids, stars, coins used as medals, etc.), piping, French seams, circle skirts, circular ruffles, and triangle and circular buttonholes, among others. As in the earlier program, the audio and video qualities are excellent, with several close-up shots, and Carr proves to be both a knowledgeable and easygoing instructress. The program assumes a basic knowledge and familiarity with sewing skills, and will prove an inspiration to patrons who sew their own garments. Highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
